Diabetes Type 2 is a condition where the body does not produce enough insulin or the cells in your body are resistant to your insulin. Glucose is converted by insulin into energy. When we eat food our body breaks down all of the sugar and starches into glucose. Once the glucose is in the body then the insulin takes the glucose and puts it into your cells.

Therefore when your body does not produce enough insulin or is resistant to insulin the glucose stays in your blood. Diabetes is usually diagnosed by an elevated blood sugar level.

Too much glucose in your blood can cause eye problems such as glaucoma and cataracts. The legs and feet can suffer from neuropathy or numbness and pain in the feet. Diabetics are more susceptible to infections. Another major risk is hypertension and cardiac problems.

There are many other complications, but know that you can do to stop these complications and control your diabetes. I am happy to say the fight against diabetes can be as simple as proper diet and walking.

There are several different types of diabetic meal planning systems such as glycemic index counting, diabetes food pyramid, create your plate and carbohydrate counting.

Carbohydrate counting is controlling your carbohydrates to keep your blood glucose within the proper range.

Glycemic index is controlling high glycemic index foods. High glycemic foods are known to cause your glucose in your to elevate. Examples of high glycemic foods are sugar, white flour, white rice and even fruit juices.

Creating a Plate is six steps to create the best diabetic diet. For instance, it is suggest that you take your dinner plate and drawn an imaginary line down the middle of plate and then on one side divide it in half until you now have 3 sections.

Make the largest section is vegetables such as spinach, lettuce, greens, cabbage, tomatoes, mushrooms and peppers. In the 2nd section put starchy foods such as whole grain bread, whole grain cereal, rice, pasta and potatoes. In the third section put your meat, cheese, eggs or fish.

The Diabetes Food Pyramid is another option by selecting food off of a special diabetic pyramid. The fats, oils, meat and milk are a the top. Vegetables, grains and fruits are at the bottom.

Select the type of diabetic diet that you would like to follow to control your diabetes. You will find that eating a healthy diet with control of carbohydrates will help you control your blood sugar. You do not have to prepare a special meal for yourself, this is healthy diet for everyone. This will take planning, but you will find that you will not miss the processed foods when your blood glucose is within normal limits and your energy level goes up.
